Toyota Navigation DVD

My experience with the Toyota Navigation DVD has been somewhat mixed. I was quite excited and had very high expectations regarding my Toyota Navigation system. When I drove the car for the first time around my home, I noticed that none of the streets showed up on the navigation unit, even the major streets. The city that I live in is a metropolitan that has well over 1 million in population. It was surprising to me that my city was not updated with the correct street addresses on the grid. However, because I knew the area well, I was able to determine my whereabouts and roughly able to use the navigation as best as I possibly could.

I called customer support regarding these issues and they were able to determine that I needed an update. I popped the Toyota Navigation DVD in and followed the prompts and was able to update the system and the major roads finally did appear. I supposed something had happened where the software of the Toyota Navigation unit was not updated when it was released to the general public (or it’s just me). If you have had similar issues, please let us know so that we can let everyone else know.

It fixed the issue that I was having, but there were other minor issues with the Toyota Navigation DVD. I have another vehicle that utilizes the Navigation as well. When I compared driving into the similar area, I noticed that the other unit was more accurate and actually showed up the correct grid and addresses that the Toyota didn’t have. When speaking with them, they did acknowledge that they are still working on and improving the navigation.

I thought customer support did a great job. They acknowledged my problem and really wanted to help me find a solution. For any inconveniences that I was having with my unit they did offer me $300 credit for any future Toyota parts or service that I had wanted. I would have loved 300 cash, but I can understand why I given credit.

I did find that on trips, this baby worked like a gem. The thing that I came to realization is that I don’t need to use the navigation in my hometown because it is my hometown and I know the area fairly well. I was hesitant to rely on the Toyota Navigation DVD solely, so I printed some Google maps directions just in case. A quarter of the way to the trip, I was able to determine that the navigation was accurate and I could depend on it. Since then, I have gone on about 8 different trips and have not had a problem. It may be the area that I live in. If you are having issues, that may be the issue that you are having so beware.

Toyota does acknowledge that there are a few bugs that need working out but what company doesn’t. I respected the fact that they acknowledged it right away and didn’t deny it like some companies would.
